[[RESEARCH ENRICHMENT START]]
Zone 6B: Direct sow in early spring while weather is cool. Succession sow through spring, then sow again in midsummer for fall harvest. Mature carrots tolerate light frost and often become sweeter after cool weather.
Germination: Carrot seed germinates slowly and requires continuous surface moisture. Avoid allowing the seedbed to crust or dry out.
Harvest: Harvest when roots reach useful size and good color. Danvers 126 is well suited to storage and performs better than many long carrots in heavier soils.
Seed Saving: Carrots are biennial and normally flower during their second growing season after overwintering. They cross readily with other Daucus carota, including Queen Anne's lace, so isolation is required for pure seed.
Special Care: Thin carefully to prevent crowded or misshapen roots. Avoid transplanting because root disturbance can cause forked carrots.
