Notes

Original Planting Method: Direct sow after frost or start indoors 3โ€“4 weeks early; transplant carefully
Outdoor / Direct Sow / Transplant Window: Transplant/direct sow about May 15 โ€“ Jun 30
Germination Time: About 7โ€“14 days
Days to Harvest / Bloom: About 60โ€“80 days to bloom
Container Friendly: Yes, with a roomy pot and tall trellis
Pollinator Friendly: Yes; flowers attract bees and other pollinators
Medicinal / Herbal Use: Primarily ornamental here; do not assume culinary/medicinal use unless the seed packet confirms the intended use
Perennial?: No in Zone 6B; frost-tender annual
Succession / Reusable Notes: One or two sowings are sufficient; save mature seed if desired.
Zone 6B Notes: Plant after frost and give a tall support. It grows quickly during warm weather but is killed by frost.
Companion Plants: Beans, cucumbers, squash, tomatoes and other pollinator flowers
Avoid Planting Near / Watch Outs: Fast twining vine needs support and can climb into neighboring plants. Frost-sensitive.

[[RESEARCH ENRICHMENT START]]
Zone 6B: Grow as an annual in Zone 6B. Start indoors a few weeks before frost or direct sow after soil warms.
Germination: Soaking seed overnight before sowing can speed germination.
Harvest: Produces masses of fringed canary-yellow flowers on a vigorous climbing vine.
Seed Saving: Allow seed to fully mature and dry before collection.
Special Care: Provide a trellis, fence or arbor. Canary Creeper is Tropaeolum peregrinum and is distinct from ordinary garden nasturtium, Tropaeolum majus.
