[[RESEARCH ENRICHMENT START]]
Zone 6B: Plant after frost when soil reaches about 60ยฐF. Its 75-80 day maturity makes Early Golden Bantam well suited to Southeast Michigan and permits limited succession sowing.
Germination: Plant in blocks of several short rows rather than one long row to improve wind pollination and kernel set.
Harvest: Harvest sweet-corn ears when silks are brown and dry but husks remain green, and kernels release milky juice when punctured.
Seed Saving: Corn is wind-pollinated and crosses readily with other corn varieties. Separate by distance or flowering time to maintain true seed.
Special Care: Plants commonly produce one to two 6-7 inch ears per stalk. Side-dress with nitrogen during rapid vegetative growth if soil fertility is limited.
